Sir Michael Pitt’s independent report has found that we need to take flood planning much more seriously if we’re to escape the dangers we faced last summer. The 2007 flooding left 13 people dead and saw 44,600 homes flooded throughout the UK with the Midlands and Yorkshire worst hit.
The key to keeping people out of danger is making sure everybody at risk receives adequate warning of imminent floods - but it is not only the authorities who should be taking the floods more seriously. registered with the Environment Agency's Flood Line to receive up-to-the-minute advice and should have an emergency kit in their homes."
