Mobile Handsets Support Contingency Planning
Modern technology has made it a lot simpler for businesses to carry out contingency planning, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI). Kelly Ostler-Coyle, a spokesperson for the industry body points in particular to mobile phone technology, ”it’s easier now to put contingencies in place in the event of an emergency.”
Rapide works with companies like The Environment Agency to alert customers to potential flood risks. Jim Crothers at the Environment Agency confirms, “text is a very important channel of communication and a big growth area. More and more people will opt to use it as their first choice to receive warnings of flooding as time goes on.”
At Barclays Bank Service Recovery, Rapide are helping them manage all major incidents that could impact any of their highly critical IT services.
Simon Wilkinson at Barclays explains, ”because Barclays is a global bank with extensive worldwide operations, IT incidents can happen at any time of the day or night, so we use Rapide to deliver incident messages on a 24/7 basis.”
Recent research by AXA Insurance has shown that 7 out of 10 businesses would not be able to survive in the event of a major emergency and that resilient communications plans are normally the weakest link in a business continuity plan with the tendency to rely on a single technology such as email.
