Rangers Football Club
Rant and Rave
The challenge
Rangers Football Club (RFC) was established in 1872 and has grown into a major force in Scottish football. They have won 51 league titles over their 136 year history – a world record.
RFC wanted to take a proactive approach to unacceptable behaviour in football with their ‘Pride over Prejudice’ campaign but needed a solution to help fans combat it. Rapide provided them with the perfect tool.
The solution
Rapide provided Rangers with the Rant & Rave service. Initially they used it in conjunction with the ‘Pride over Prejudice’ campaign in the 07/08 season, however it proved such a success they are rolling it out for the ‘Follow with Pride’ campaign for the 08/09 season.
The message to fans is simple. If they see any unacceptable behaviour, including sectarianism or racism, they are asked to inform a police officer or steward. If they want less confrontational method they can use Rapide’s SMS service. The fans just need to text ‘RFC’ with the match and date, details of the behaviour and the location to 66099.
Kenny Scott, Security and Operations Manager believes,
“It’s great that the supporters are involved in such a big way. We want to show the good that Rangers does but also send out a very clear message that the club and its true fans will not tolerate any form of unacceptable behaviour, home or away.”
